When I first arrived as your pastor in 2016, I shared with you a number of times that I was planning for something else(retirement) when some of CUMC’s congregational leaders asked our Bishop to consider appointing me as your Senior Pastor. Honestly, my becoming Castleton’s Pastor was not what anyone expected.
During these past two years, it has been a real blessing to have had the privilege of serving this great church. But, like the surprise of coming here, so now I know it is time for me to move toward retirement. Consequently, I will be retiring effective June 30, 2018.
Although Deb and I have not served with you as long as we would have liked, I know it is time for me to retire. Over the next few weeks, our District Superintendent, the Rev. Jim Bushfield, will be discussing with our Leadership Team what qualities and talents your next Senior Pastor should possess. Then a few weeks later, after Bishop Trimble has made a decision, our Staff Parish Chair Ron Miller will announce to the congregation the Bishop’s choice of the person selected to serve as CUMC’s next pastor.
My desire is to keep you totally informed, and at the same time to thank you for your kindness and generosity to Deb and me as we have served these past two years among you.
Finally, I ask that you be in prayer for our Leadership Team, for DS Jim Bushfield and the Cabinet, and for Bishop Trimble as they prayerfully discern who is the best person to lead CUMC into its 176th year and beyond.
Yours for Christ’s Kingdom,
M. Bert Kite
