Reverend Bert Kite was born in Greenwood, IN to parents, Bert and Nettie Kite. He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in business from Indiana University (1974), Master of Divinity degree from Methodist Theological School in Ohio (1977), and International Conference of Police Chaplains certification (1999).
Bert followed his call to ministry by serving his first appointment as pastor of Epworth United Methodist Church, Newburgh, IN (1977-84). He has served as Senior Pastor of Sellersburg United Methodist Church, Sellersburg, IN (1984-88), Southport United Methodist Church, Southport, IN (1988-93), Lawrence United Methodist Church, Indianapolis, IN (1993-2002), and St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, Carmel, IN (2002-09). In 2009, he was appointed District Superintendent of the Indianapolis West District in the South IN Conference. Currently, Bert serves as District Superintendent for the Central District (Marion & five other counties) of the Indiana Conference.
Bert and Debbie have been married since 1974. Debbie retired in 2015 from Lawrence Township Schools. They have four children: Corrie, B.J., Matt and Tom (identical twins), and 4 granddaughters: Kaley, Ryane, Avery, and Reese.
Bert has sung professionally and is an avid airplane enthusiast, including being the Chaplain of the Indy Air Show. He and Debbie love to travel throughout Indiana and the United States.
Bert’s personal mission is to live with passion that which celebrates the joy of being a follower of Jesus Christ, and he freely invites others to live in the joy of the Kingdom of God.
