30 Days of Catch: Week 2 Recap

by | Sep 16, 2024 | 30 Days of Catch to Strikeout Hunger, Pastor's Blog

Pastor Matt has completed Week 2 of 30 Days of Catch! During September, Hunger Action Month, he is playing catch with a different person each day. It’s an effort to build relationships in the community and help feed neighbors facing hunger along the way. Please visit give.gleaners.org/catch2024 to help him reach his goal! Read below for a recap of all his Week 2 catch partners.

Day 8

Day 8 of 30 Days of Catch for Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana Inc. with my buddy Beckett Gerlach, lil sister Kaylin and friends from Castleton United Methodist Church!

Day 9

Beautiful morning for Day 9 of 30 days of catch with IndyStar sports columnist Gregg Doyel! Holliday Park – Indy Parks and Recreation was a great setting for a game of catch with the rising sun behind us. Gregg is a great writer and good ball player. He asked if I can catch a 90 mph throw. When I said, “probably not,” he said, “Good, because I can’t throw that hard anyway.”

Day 10

Victory Field is a great place to play a game of catch! It’s even better on a beautiful day which happens to be Hunger Action Day and Day 10 of my 30 Days of Catch. Today I played catch with Randy Lewandowski the President and General Manager of the Indianapolis Indians!

It was great to get to know him, talk about ways to serve the community, and of course about baseball as we played catch on the field. I could have played out there all day with Randy!

Day 11

I got to play catch with my favorite baseball usher! A church member at Castleton United Methodist Church and usher at Victory Field with the Indianapolis Indians, Randy Reid, was my catch partner on day 11 of 30 days of catch.

Day 12

Today was my first game of catch indoors! Day 12 of my 30 days of catch took me inside of the Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana Inc. warehouse to catch with Fred Glass, the President and CEO of Gleaners.

I often talk about baseball teams we cheer for, but I like Fred’s hat. “Everybody vs. Hunger.” That’s a team we should all be on especially this month which is Hunger Action Month.

Day 13

Day 13 of 30 days of catch! Today is with a new friend I just met who is originally from Philly! It was great getting to know him during a random catch. Thanks for playing Paul!

Day 14

Going back to 1886 for Day 14 of 30 Days of catch for Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana Inc.! It’s been a lot of fun to join the White River Base Ball Club. The old time glove is hard to catch with, but it’s still a lot of fun!

We’re very close to $4,500. Can you help me get there?
