Who, or what, are we becoming?

Practices, exercises, disciplines, rhythms…any of these ingrained habits profoundly affect what and who we become. This begs the question, “Who or What are we–individually and communally–Becoming?” For that matter, “Who or What do we WANT to Become?”

The Sunday School answer is, “We want to become like Jesus.” But do we really WANT that? Do we even know what that means? Do we know HOW to do that?

We’re going to explore these sorts of questions at the beginning of 2024 as we journey together through Ruth Haley Barton’s book Sacred Rhythms: Arranging Our Lives for Spiritual Transformation. Here’s the premise of the book (from the introduction)…

  • “I cannot transform myself.”
  • “What I can do is create the conditions where spiritual transformation can occur by developing and maintaining a rhythm of spiritual practices that keep me open and available to God.”
  • “This is fundamentally what spiritual transformation is all about choosing a way of life that opens us to the presence of God in the places of our being where our truest desires and deepest longings stir.”

Transformation implies change…a process of BECOMING different than we currently are. Join us on this journey, and let’s see what we Become together.

Find a Table Group at Castleton.

Each week, groups across the church meet in homes, at church, at restaurants, and online to grow together in their discipleship journey.

Parts of the year, these groups will all be working through the same material, in line with our worship services. Other times, groups select their own material for conversation and study.

We invite you to stop by any of the following groups anytime.
