Soul School at Castleton UMC Indianapolis

A 12-month Spiritual Formation and Discipleship Experience

You know there’s more to your faith than just Sunday church and Bible reading (when you remember).

You desire something deeper. Something real. Something that changes you from the inside out. You want to…

I

Be a faithful person who worships Christ in all your ways

I

Faithfully grow as a disciple of Jesus

I

Do what He did and wants you to do

What is Soul School?

Soul School is an intentional and guided experience of deconstruction and reconstruction, of de-scripting and re-scripting, of disorienting and reorienting so that we may be formed into the people of God.

This process is designed to be a combination of personal and communal effort (and, prayerfully, divine effort).

There will be work to do at the individual and small-group levels.

With a group, you will take a deep examination into…

I

Your understanding of and relationship with the Triune God

I

Your understanding of and relationship with the Christian community (the Church)

I

Your understanding of and relationship with the world around you

I

Your understanding of and relationship with yourself.

All so we can take the necessary steps to be conformed into the image of Christ.

Here’s how Soul School works

Each person who chooses to participate in this process will do some work at both the personal and relational/communal levels. This will go in steps/stages, with each succeeding step taking us deeper. We will spend approximately a quarter on each step…it is deliberately designed to be a slow process.

I

Step #1

Where/Who are you and how did you get here?
I

Step #2

Deep dive into values, desires, fears, practices, and priorities, and the beliefs that undergird them.
I

Step #3

Deep dive into the relationships that form you (past & present).

I

Step #4

Identifying areas of growth and the desired virtues to be cultivated. Experimenting with new/different practices/disciplines, and activities, as well as deeper accountability.

Along with processing through deep questions together, there will be a modest amount of reading along the way.
