Fish Fry
It’s Fish Fry week! The Fish Fry is open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 11 AM to 8 PM.
Pies, cookie bars & brownies are needed! Please drop them off beginning Thursday morning in the Pie Room (off of Fellowship Hall). All types of pies are needed. Fruit pies go fast! Keep them coming all through the Fish Fry! Chef’s kiss to the amazing bakers!
Back to School BASH!

Pick-a-Bus School Supplies
Donations Accepted Through July 27
July is a busy month at CUMC: Gleaners, Fish Fry, and yes, Pick-a-Bus. It’s not too early to begin shopping for school supplies! We will be supplying backpacks and supplies to our neighborhood schools, Crestview Elementary and Skiles Test Elementary as well as Family Promise (formerly IHN). Items are due July 27. Donation boxes will be available in the Narthex and at the church office.
New Worship Series: Invitation to the Jesus Life
Begins August 3
Lots of people claim to be “Christian” these days. (What does that even mean any more?) Far fewer people seem to actually be very much like Jesus. Perhaps fewer still even want to be like Jesus. What about you? Do YOU want to be like Jesus? Do you think that’s even possible? If it is possible, would you like to know HOW?
Here at CUMC, we take becoming like Jesus very seriously. It is part of our mission after all– “To make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.” A disciple (or apprentice) is someone who is learning to become like their master.
Our next series, beginning Sunday, August 3, and running until the beginning of Advent, is an Invitation To The Jesus Life–Experiments in Christlikeness, based on the book with the same title by Jan Johnson. We will be taking a deep dive into the life and ways of Jesus, and learning how we, too, can embody Jesus-like qualities and characteristics.
We will also have the honor of hosting Jan Johnson the weekend of November 15-16. (More details to come.) We hope you join us for this series–both in our Sunday services and in our Table Groups. Books are available to purchase while supplies last.
GriefShare: A Support Group to Help You Move Through the Grief Process
New Session Begins August 11
A GriefShare support group is a safe, welcoming place where people understand the difficult emotions of grief. You’ll discover what to expect in the days ahead and what’s “normal” in grief. Since there are no neat, orderly stages of grief, you’ll learn helpful ways of coping with grief, in all its unpredictability—and gain solid support each step of the way. The new session begins on August 11 and will continue on Monday evenings at 6:00 PM through October 27.
Gleaners Mobile Food Pantry Volunteers
2nd & 4th Tuesdays | June through August
No one should have to choose between putting food on the table or paying rent. Gleaners and Castleton United Methodist Church are partnering again this summer to bring the Gleaners Mobile Food Pantry to our area. Distribution continues on the Castleton UMC campus on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month on the following dates: July 22, August 12, and August 26. There are still volunteer opportunities available for the July and August dates.
